The concept of beauty

The ideal of beauty has undergone significant changes throughout history. Beauty once was identified with a curvy body, while nowadays the ideal of thinness, eternal youth and sensuality has taken over.

Ancient peoples paid some attention to beauty, identifying it with body care. To cite a few examples, in Mesopotamia, it seems it was customary to have beautiful slaves who acted as beauticians for the matrons of the time. In the Sumerian period the first perfumes take shape thanks to the fact that they themselves, passionate about magical arts, begin to study and take into consideration the links between fragrances and emotions. Perfumes are substances capable of driving away bad spirits or making an environment pleasant. With the Egyptians the cult of beauty becomes even clearer, just think of the undisputed sensual Cleopatra who loved bathing in goat's milk to make her skin candid and white. I could go on and on up to the present day and list the countless beauty rites that distinguished peoples and famous people of the time.

This is to underline how much importance has always been given to the concept of beauty, aesthetics and well-being.

The external aspect: mirror of internal health

The pursuit of beauty must be combined with the implementation of healthy lifestyles, where the external appearance is a mirror of the internal metabolic health and that of one's cells. This is because extreme thinness, obtained with restrictive or unbalanced diets, can paradoxically lead to accentuating imperfections (water retention, cellulite, etc.) and a loss of muscle tone with negative effects on health and aesthetics.

What is beauty?

It is above all the perception of harmony, of pleasant sensations that come from a stimulus of a different nature: a work of art, an object, an animal, a person, etc. The emotion that follows the perception of beauty is extremely positive and for this reason there is a search and attention, both conscious and unconscious, of all of us towards everything that appears beautiful to us, as it causes an immediate feeling of joy and satisfaction. .

Subjective and objective beauty

It is often said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that is, of a subjective beauty, meaning that it is not the object itself that is beautiful, but the idea of beauty that is stimulated in the mind of the observer. This idea of beauty is mostly subjective and depends not only on one's personality, but also on one's experiences, knowledge, aspirations, prejudices, etc. However, there is undoubtedly also an objective beauty, often widely shared, which is based on a concept of harmony, which re-proposes some particular aspects of nature, according to relationships not yet fully explained from the scientific point of view.

Subjective beauty

Beauty is synonymous with perfect proportions, but to really please and to "strike", exhibiting one of our defects with pride or irony can become the winning weapon.
